Tend’s Reports Feature turns the data from your Crop Plan, Tasks, Records, Expenses, and Notes into actionable insights to help you improve and refine your production for a farm that flourishes season after season.
How you put Tend to work on your farm will depend on your systems and where you want to take your business. In this section of the Guide, we’ll walk you through a few of the ways that you can use Tend to achieve your goals and capture relevant information for long-term learning.
Dial in production with a Crop Plan fine-tuned to your farm’s realities.
Whenever you update your Crop Plan to reflect conditions in the field by adjusting a Planting Task date, logging a planting’s first and final harvest dates, recording yields, or linking a field Note to a Planting, this information is captured in Records and funneled into the Planned vs. Actual by Planting Report.
This Report highlights how your original production plan differed from your season reality to offer insights into your plantings’ performance compared to your expectations. You can mine this Report for insights into the accurate days to maturity, harvest windows, and yields for each of your plantings to help you dial in your plan for next season.
Unlock efficiencies with labor insights.
When you plan field work with Tasks and Task Templates, the team members assigned to particular Tasks can log their labor hours for the Task as they complete it to help you track how time is used on the farm. The Labor by Task Report organizes this data to show you how much time was dedicated to each activity, so you can make informed decisions for building efficiencies into your operations.
Tend Tip: When first starting out with Tend, focusing on your most pressing operational challenges can help you get the most out of your Task management right away. If your goal is to reduce time spent fighting weeds, then prioritize logging hours for weeding and cultivation Tasks. As you gain insights and make progress towards your management goals, you can shift focus to new priorities in subsequent seasons, so your systems grow more efficient each year.
Evaluate crop enterprises for high-value production planning.
Assigning Tasks and Task Templates to specific plantings enables you to analyze how your labor time is distributed across your crops in the Labor by Crop Report. This Report displays the number of hours dedicated to each crop, so you can quickly identify which systems need adjustment.
For additional insights into your crops’ costs of production, assign labor rates to your crew members and add seed, fertility, and other costs in the Expenses Feature. This data will populate the Expense by Crop Report to give you a window into your crops’ margins, so you can make production and management adjustments to maximize your profitability.
Hone in on yields and maximize your harvest.
Tracking your Harvests and Yields in Tend can help you zero in on the nuances of your fruiting crop yields by funneling data into the Average Yields by Time Report. This Report shows you the arc of production for a planting’s lifecycle and provides tools for calculating how much you need to plant to hit weekly targets over the season.
If you grow for a tomato-loving CSA or a chef with a passion for peppers, then this Report will help you ensure there’s enough of your most popular fruiting crops to go around all season long.
Slice and dice your data for the information you need.
If there’s information you need to achieve your goals that isn’t provided by one of Tend’s Reports, then you can export the data from Reports to conduct any analysis you need to empower your management.
